Digital accessibility status

This website is partially compliant with the annex to the Act of 4 April 2019 on the digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies due to the non-compliances listed below.

Inaccessible content

Non-compliance with the annex

Some parts of the website are not fully accessible:

  1. The website does not provide a “Skip to main content” link. Keyboard users can navigate through the website, and the keyboard focus is visible, but users cannot quickly bypass the repeated navigation menu and move directly to the main content.
  2. The website is not fully responsive. On smaller screens, especially on mobile devices, horizontal scrolling may appear. This may make reading and navigating the content more difficult for users.
  3. Some repeated links use generic labels, such as “MORE INFORMATIONS”. Their purpose is usually understandable from the surrounding context, but the labels may be insufficient when links are read out of context, for example in a screen reader list of links. The labels should be made more specific, for example: “More information about the MEDUSA project”.
  4. Some links to downloadable files do not clearly inform users about the file format, such as PDF, ZIP or JPG.
  5. Some downloadable file links on the Resources page do not work correctly or may be blocked by the browser. As a result, users may not be able to access the linked files.
  6. Some subpages do not yet have unique and sufficiently descriptive page titles. Page titles should clearly identify the current subpage and the website, for example: “Projects – Thermodynamics in Action – University of Silesia in Katowice”.

Other information

Architectural accessibility

The building related to this website is located at:

ul. Bankowa 14, room 107
40-007 Katowice, Poland

The building belongs to the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

The building consists of five pavilions marked A, B, C, D and E. The pavilions are connected by passages that allow movement between them from the ground floor and the first floor. Because of this structure, choosing the correct entrance and moving around the building may require additional guidance.

The building has two main entrances from ul. A. Chełkowskiego. One of the entrances, closer to ul. Bankowa, is located in the connector between pavilions C and D. Access to this entrance includes stairs, which can be bypassed by a ramp. The second main entrance is located in pavilion E on the western side. Stairs near this entrance can also be bypassed by a ramp.

The reception desk is located near the main entrance in pavilion E, on the right-hand side. If entering the building through the entrance closer to ul. Bankowa, reaching the reception desk requires crossing a significant part of the building. Reception staff can provide information about the location of rooms and support in reaching a specific room.

The corridors in the building are generally wide, although some narrowings occur. There may also be slight differences in floor level in communication areas due to the structure of the connected pavilions.

Some rooms, including selected lecture rooms, staff rooms, the cloakroom, buffet and accessible toilet, can be reached directly from the ground floor or by lift. In pavilion B, all rooms are accessible from the ground floor level or by lift. Due to the connections between the pavilions, it is recommended to consult the building administration or reception staff about the most convenient route.

There are publicly available toilets in the building. The building includes toilets for people with disabilities located in pavilions B, D and E. Access to some toilets may require moving through closed corridor doors. Toilets for people with disabilities have wider doors, grab bars and acoustic and optical call systems.

The Walerian Pańka Lecture Hall no. 420, located on the first floor of segment D, is equipped with an induction loop for hard-of-hearing people. Rooms 236 and 410a are quiet rooms intended for people who need to disconnect from excessive stimuli.

At least one parking space for people with disabilities is located near each entrance to the building. These spaces may be used by authorised persons in accordance with the general rules for parking cards for people with disabilities.

Assistance dogs and guide dogs are allowed in all buildings of the University of Silesia in Katowice.
